Commercial Legal Expenses is an optional cover underwritten by DAS Legal Expenses Insurance Company Limited, designed to cover your legal expenses in certain circumstances. Cover applies under the following 6 headings:

  • Employment disputes and compensation awards
  • Legal defence
  • Contract Disputes
  • Property protection and bodily injury
  • Tax investigation and VAT disputes
  • Statutory Licence Protection

Cover limit £60,000 any one claim; maximum limit of £1m in any one period of insurance for Employment Compensation Awards.

Significant Exclusions or Limitations for Commercial Legal Expenses:

  • Employment disputes and compensation awards
    • Disputes where the cause of action arises within the first 90 days of the cover provided. See Exclusion 1 to Insured Incident 1 (A) of Section 6.
    • Disputes with an employee who was subject to a written or oral warning (formal or informal) within 180 days immediately preceding the inception date of the cover provided. See Exclusion 2 to Insured Incident 1 (A) of Section 6.
    • Redundancy or alleged redundancy or unfair selection for redundancy arising within the first 180 days of the cover provided. See Exclusion 3 to Insured Incident 1 (A) of Section 6.
  • Legal defence
    • Prosecutions for motoring offences. See Exclusion to Insured Incident 2 of Section 6.
  • Contract disputes
    • Letting and tenancy agreements are excluded. See Exclusion 2 b) to Insured Incident 3 of section 6.
    • Disputes from a loan, mortgage, pension or investment are excluded. See Exclusion 2 c) to Insured Incident 3 of section 6.
    • Contracts involving a motor vehicle are excluded. See Exclusion 2 d) to Insured Incident 3 of section 6.
  • Property protection and bodily injury
    • Contracts entered into by you. See Exclusion 1 to Insured Incident 4 (a) of Section 6.
    • Goods in transit lent or hired out by you. See Exclusion 2 to Insured Incident 4 (a) of Section 6.
    • Goods not at your premises unless you are using them. See Exclusion 3 to Insured Incident 4 (a) of Section 6.
    • Damage to or caused by motor vehicles unless your business is selling them. See Exclusion 6 to Insured Incident 4 (a) of Section 6.
    • Injury caused by a motor vehicle. See Exclusion 6 to Insured Incident 4 (a) of Section 6.
  • Statutory Licence Protection
    • Any licence appeal relating to the ownership, driving or use of a motor vehicle. See Exclusion 2 to Insured Incident 6 of Section 6.
