Exclusions and limitations

These are some of the exclusions that apply to the policy. There are also further provisions such as those relating to security requirements, alarms and under insurance as well as general conditions and exclusions. Details of these can be found in the policy document. Other additional terms and conditions may be applied in certain cases. Excesses apply to certain types of claims.
Material Damage
- Theft by force - We shall not be liable for damage resulting from theft or attempted theft unless:
- involving entry to or exit from a building at the premises by forcible and violent means
- following hold up by violence or threat of violence
- it occurs in respect of vehicles

- Portable Hand Tools - Cover for theft is excluded unless portable hand tools are stored in a locked tool chest which is secured to the fabric of the building. See exclusion 14 of Section 1 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
- Unoccupied Buildings - Damage to buildings which are unoccupied caused by freezing, escape of water from any tank, apparatus or pipe or malicious persons is excluded. See exclusion 15 of Section 1 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
There are also measures which you must take to protect unoccupied buildings. See condition 4 of Section 1 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
Loss of metered water is also excluded. See extension 5 of Section 1 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
- Money in Transit - It is a condition of the policy that money in transit will be accompanied by:
- Up to £3,000 - one able bodied adult
- Up to £6,000 - two able bodied adults
- Over £6,000 - three able bodied adults
We will not be liable for any loss of money in a specified locked safe out of business hours unless all of the safe keys have been removed from the premises.

- Motor Garage Condition - This details measures which you must take regarding the storage and removal of waste materials and the storage of flammable liquids. See General Condition 19 of the policy document for terms and conditions.
- Portable Heating - The use of portable heating devices in areas other than canteens and offices is not permitted. See General Condition 21 of the policy document for terms and conditions.
- Keys Removal - In respect of unoccupied vehicles, it is a condition precedent to liability that all points of access to the vehicles are closed and secured by all the locks, windows fastenings and other protections and the vehicle keys or key cards are removed unless the person in charge of the vehicle is immediately beside that vehicle and has only to leave the keys or key cards in the vehicle to enable work to be carried out.
During business hours vehicle keys or key cards must be kept in a secure location.
Outside business hours or whilst the premises are left unattended, said keys or key cards must be removed from the premises or if kept on the premises - placed in a locked safe or cabinet and its key or keys removed from the premises or if the person responsible for their safe custody lives on the premises, removed to that part of the premises which the person actually lives.
- Metered Water - We shall not be liable for any loss resulting from damage from a loss of metered water in respect of unoccupied premises or accidental escape of water from any automatic sprinkler installation in the premises.
Motor Vehicle Road Risks
- Public Liability - Cover does not apply
- if the insured vehicle is used for a purpose that is not permitted by the certificate of insurance
- when the insured vehicle is being used on any airfield, airport, aerodrome or military base

- Keys Removal - In respect of unoccupied vehicles, it is a condition precedent to liability that all points of access to the vehicles are closed and secured by all the locks, window fastenings and other protections and the vehicle keys or key cards are removed.
Material Damage and Motor Vehicle Road Risks
- New for Old Vehicles - Cover does not apply
- in respect of theft if the vehicle is recovered within 28 days of the date of which the theft is first reported in writing if damage does not exceed 50% of the vehicle's list price
- Public and Products Liability - Cover excludes legal liability arising out of the following:
- use of craft designed to travel in, on or through water air or space. See Exclusion 5 of Section 6 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
- the export of products to the United States of America or Canada. See Exclusion 8 of Section 6 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
- travelling from or to or working on any offshore installation. See Exclusion 10 of Section 6 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
Business Interruption
- Public Utilities - We will not be liable for failure of the supply of gas, water, electricity or telecommunications where the cessation of the supply is for less than 6 hours. See extension 3 of Section 8 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
- Employer's Liability - Cover excludes legal liability arising out of travelling from or to or working on any offshore installation. See Exclusion 2 of Section 7 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
- M.O.T Loss of Licence - Cover excludes losses as a result of
- a criminal conviction
- any policy of National or Local Government
- suspension or warning received during the 4 weeks immediately following the inception of cover

- Conversion - It is a condition of cover that
- all payments for vehicles purchased or allowances for part exchange must be by cheque, credit card or credit against a new purchase
- you must be a subscriber to HPI Ltd or Experian Ltd and run the relevant checks

Fidelity Guarantee
- Discovery Period - Cover applies to losses discovered within 18 months of the act of fraud or dishonesty. See Section 10 of the policy document for terms and conditions.
- References - You must retain a satisfactory reference for each employee who has responsibility for money, goods accounts, computer operation or computer programming. See Condition 9 of Section 10 within the policy document for terms and conditions.
