A new initiative has been launched to help business insurance holders avoid making staff redundant over the recession, it has been claimed.
Phil Flaxton, chief executive of not-for-profit group WorkwiseUK.org, revealed that the organisation has included details of its StaffShare scheme on its website for business insurance customers looking for guidance.
The initiative provides a resource for business insurance holders who are aiming to second workers out or lend them to other firms for a short period of time.
Mr Flaxton added: "If individuals want to put themselves on StaffShare, there are organisations out there, particularly in the third sector, [
] who during the summer months are very willing to take these people on a short-term assignment."
He explained that the group launched the initiative after discovering that many business insurance customers have staff who are currently under-utilised and need to identify alternative ways to use them.
Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that UK unemployment has hit a 12-year high of 2.26 million, with 232,000 people losing their jobs over the second quarter of 2009.
