The majority of workers in the UK would back the right to request paid time off to train, a new poll has found.
According to a study, carried out by YouGov on behalf of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), 71 per cent of people think such a move is a good idea and 53 per cent state they would be likely to use it.
Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said: "This polling shows that workers have a great zeal to learn new skills...
"The government must ensure that any new right to request training is strong enough to make a genuine difference."
In June, the government announced that it is planning to introduce the right for employees to ask for training.
It hopes to publish the results of a consultation into the proposal by the end of the year.
