Wireless internet connections are allowing small businesses to work more flexibly, it has been claimed.
According to Marc Shoffman, a spokesperson for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the advent of Wi-Fi technology has given firms more freedom.
However, it also brings a certain degree of risk with it and companies must make sure employers are trained to deal with this, he warned.
Some companies might also find that an internet presence is not suited to the way they work, Mr Shoffman stated.
"The take up of the internet has been slow amongst small business, mainly because a lot are quite specialised and require a personal service which you dont necessarily get online," he said.
Yesterday, the FSB urged local authorities to make sure that their parking plans allow people to access small high street businesses.
According to the body, this is vital to the survival of such companies and should be dealt with appropriately.
