Well managed firms will continue to do well despite the economic downturn, according to one expert.

In news which might be of interest to business insurance customers, David Kern, economic advisor for the British Chambers of Commerce, stated that people have taken too gloomy a view of the economy.

He said: "Well managed businesses will do well; I think the recession tests management."

Although firms will do worse than in more a clement economic scenario, "people will still have to shop" he added.

Business will have to learn to cope with the more challenging environment they are facing as "life goes on", Mr Kern stated.

It might interest business insurance customers to know that figures from the British Retail Consortium show that sales fell 1.5 per cent in September when compared to the same period in 2007.

According to the body, sales have now been lower than they were a year ago in six of the past seven months, the worst situation since 2005.ADNFCR-873-ID-18858169-ADNFCR
