The US dollar will "probably continue to weaken" in the coming year - good news for SMEs that import from the States, one expert says.
Adrian Jacob, trading director for Currency UK, said: "[The weak dollar] gives people who buy products in the States an awful lot of scope to bring products in for much, much cheaper than they would otherwise. A weak dollar can be very, very beneficial for [UK] importers."
However, he added that the opposite was true for those who exported to the USA as their goods would be comparatively more expensive.
Mr Jacob said that the continuing weakness of the US dollar could see the euro become even more important as an international currency with some companies and government now preferring to keep their monetary reserves in to the EU single currency.
In November of last year the US dollar fell to a 26-year low against sterling and the euro.
