Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications technology can improve business performance and save companies money, according to one expert.
The Communications Management Association (CMA) has said that businesses, such as small and medium-sized enterprises, could benefit from VoIP telephone services.
Maren Bennette, spokesman for the CMA, said: "[VoIP technology] has the potential to improve organisational effectiveness and thus improve business or organisational performance."
He added that a large number of businesses were now using the service and that VoIP telephony services such as Skype were currently handling large numbers of business clients.
A recent survey conducted by Illume Consulting found that users of Centrex style VoIP had seen growth of over a 50 per cent in 3 months.
The study also claimed that there were currently 154,000 people using the service in the UK and that this was unlikely to slow down.
