Business leaders believe that vocational qualifications (VQs) are the key to success, a new survey shows.
According to research by education charity Edge, 85 per cent of bosses would encourage young people to take a VQ, with the figure rising to 93 per cent among heads of the UK's largest firms.
It also found that 55 per cent feel that the qualifications increase earnings potential and 57 per cent think they equip students with the skills they need for work.
Almost two-thirds (61 per cent) of business leaders state that obtaining a VQ was the starting point for their current success and position.
Andy Powell, chief executive of Edge, said: "There are many paths to success, but what's becoming clearer is just how vital VQs are to the British economy - and the positive role they play in their recipients' lives."
Edge is currently organising the first VQ Day, which it says is aimed at giving the qualifications the recognition they deserve.
