Poor ventilation could affect the rents that buy-to-let insurance holders can charge their tenants, an expert suggests.

James Starkey, managing director of Starkey Systems, claims that a failure to ensure good air circulations can affect the environment in the home.

He says that when a traditional property cannot allow moisture to escape a number of problems can emerge, which could lower the rents that buy-to-let insurance holders can expect to receive.

Black mould spores and difficulties with water retention in the bathroom are among the issues he suggests could be caused by a lack of ventilation.

Mr Starkey states: "We are getting a lot of enquiries where people have put their loft insulation in and then suddenly they don't understand why the damp at the bottom of their curtains has occurred."

Recent figures published by AMA Research found that the ventilation, air conditioning and non-domestic heating market expanded four per cent in the 2006-07 period.ADNFCR-873-ID-19096293-ADNFCR
