Workers in the UK only have enough energy to work for five hours a day, a new study has revealed.
The research conducted by high street chemists Boots found that, despite being paid for a nine-to-five job, the average worker in the UK spends 151 minutes a day not working to due tiredness - meaning reduced productivity for SMEs.
According to the report, most people do not wake up properly until 9:45 am, they then take a 32 minute lunch break and after this fall in to afternoon slump at around 2:00pm. The slum can last as long as one hour and 14 minutes.
Angela Chalmers, a spokesperson for Boots, suggested that bosses might want to replace vending machines with healthier snacks.
She said: "It's hard to maintain energy levels when you're stressed out at the office and living off a diet of chocolate bars and crisps, but thankfully all it takes are a few simple diet and lifestyle changes to get you back on track."
Yesterday, a government report suggested that firms could increase productivity by introducing a health and wellbeing programme in the workplace.
