
The latest research shows that most small businesses are reliant on being able to access the internet in order to ensure their success, it has emerged.
Survey results from the Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index reveals that two thirds of all small business owners use the internet several times a week for business purposes.
Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann, executive vice president and head of Wells Fargo's small business segment, said: "The internet provides an immediate and accessible set of information, resources and services for small business owners.
"Technological innovations are making it possible for small business owners to more easily manage their finances and obtain timely information online."
Functions that SMEs use the internet for include online banking, social networking, marketing, and gathering information and industry advice, according to the survey.
With access to the web being a vital tool for the majority of small businesses, experts are advising SME bosses to make adequate provisions in case of web failure.
