Business insurance customers in Trafford are being encouraged to apply for business rate relief.
Some business insurance customers in the area have their bill reduced by up to 50 per cent, so Trafford council is campaigning for more to apply for the scheme to see if they could save money.
Over 1,400 local businesses already receive help and many more may be eligible, says the council, which collects almost £150 million worth of tax from over 8,000 business insurance customers.
"In the current economic climate we want to ensure that businesses do not pay more rates than they need to. We think there may be some small businesses in Trafford that are not claiming their entitlement to small business rate relief," said executive councillor John Tolhurst.
This week, the Federation of Small Businesses reported that ten per cent of it members - around 500,000 - are intending to take extended breaks over the Christmas period in order to save on electricity and fuel bills.
