Waiters are demonstrating outside of the House of Commons today to change the rules regarding tipping, which may interest those with restaurant insurance policies.

Organised by Unite, the protest calls on the government to make sure all of the gratuities left by customers are passed on to staff and ensure these do not count towards employees' minimum wage.

Len McCluskey, an official with the union, claims the message to the authorities has been strongly expressed by the campaigners.

He states: "The Unite campaign for fair tips has established that everyone, except greedy bosses, believes that tips and service charges belong to the hard-working staff."

Mr McCluskey calls on the government to ensure all staff employed by restaurant insurance holders are given a "decent living wage" and are allowed to keep the tips they receive on top of this.

The British Hospitality Association tells the Times it accepts the law will need to change but calls for a delay on this.

It claims restaurant insurance holders will be hit by the additional financial burden this regulation will create.ADNFCR-873-ID-19021035-ADNFCR
