Small business minister Margaret Hodge said yesterday that UK small businesses would benefit from having the number of available business support schemes reduced from 3,000 to 100.
The announcement comes in response to a number of small and medium-sized enterprises having voiced concerns about the business support services being overly complicated.
Now the government is to conduct a 12-week consultation period during which it will heed the views of Regional Development Agencies, local authorities and the chambers of commerce in an effort to simplify the service.
Ms Hodge said that the aim of the proposed simplification was to "take the hassle out of getting help to run a business", reports bCentral.
The minister also said that the government would try to cut back on "unnecessary duplication".
