Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK will increase their IT investment over the next year, a report for market analyst AMI has forecast.
Storage capacity and convergence will drive the growth alongside increased take-up of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services such as Skype.
Mobile technologies will also receive heavy investment, with SME spending on notebooks expected to grow by a fifth over the course of 2007.
Increasing mobility is being encouraged by the growing ubiquity of wireless access in major cities which is freeing many managers and employees from their offices.
Remote-hosted software-as-a-service packages will begin to play a greater role in SME IT strategies said AMI, as vendors begin to focus on explaining its benefits to businesses.
SME spending on the sector will grow by a fifth in the next five years, said the report.
