SMEs 'should promote brand' when recruiting

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) should promote the brand of the company when attempting to attract new staff, according to one expert.

A spokeswoman for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) had said that recruitment advertising should sell the organisation to potential employees.

Emma Price, senior press officer at CIPD said that highlighting benefits and work culture can help to get the right people for the position.

She added that online recruitment can be a useful tool and is "a relatively cheap way to reach a wide range of people".

"As long as you carry out the appropriate checks when you're interviewing, check qualifications and suitability - which we advise employers to do [anyway] - then it's the same as employing by any other means."

A study conducted by CIPD earlier this year found that 73 per cent of businesses had advertised jobs through an agency (including online) and that 78 per cent of employers said they had experienced difficulty recruiting.
