Small business owners believe the onus is on the government to turn the economy around, a new survey has revealed.

The latest poll by the Orange SMS Business Jury reveals 83 per cent of company owners think it is down to the executive to address the current downturn, reports SME Web.

Business owners feel that this should be done though cutting fuel duty (37 per cent), lowering interest rates (27 per cent) and reducing income tax (19 per cent), the research found.

Speaking to the news provider, Martin Lyne, director of small and medium enterprise for Orange Business Services, said: "The jury is clearly out on the long-term effects of the current economic climate, but businesses are obviously feeling the pain."

Firms should be supported as they look to cope with tough times as this will help the economy in the long run, he added.

Last week, the Federation of Small Businesses urged the government to do more to help firms cope with the rising cost of gas and electricity.ADNFCR-873-ID-18790930-ADNFCR
