Small businesses are having to function under an increasing amount of pressure, tighter deadlines and more demanding customers than ever before, according to new research.

A survey conducted by YouGov for T-Mobile revealed that 55 per cent of SME bosses say that it is harder to run a successful business now than it was three years ago.

The survey also found that 35 per cent said that customers were more demanding than ever before, while 33 per cent said that faster response times were demanded of them than in the past.

In order to cater for the challenges of this perceived 'want it now' culture, SMEs are turning increasingly to mobile technology in a bid to enable them to achieve quicker results.

Derek Williamson, head of business marketing at T-Mobile UK, said: "The rise of the internet has given birth to a 'want it now' culture - customers expect an immediate response to every enquiry.

"The ability to fulfil orders and respond to customers as quickly as possible is of paramount importance, which is why SMEs are starting to recognise that mobile technology can have a significant impact on their bottom line."
