UK business insurance owners are vulnerable from fraudsters online and are being increasingly targeted by these individuals, an expert warns.
Tony Neate, managing director of Get Safe Online warns that small enterprises in the UK fall into three categories with particular security needs.
He suggests two of these are at particular risk, with companies handling online payments having the strongest element of danger.
Security should be a priority for these organisations and they should consider hiring third-party support, he states.
Mr Neate warns that a failure to successfully protect customers' details and identities could lead to a loss of confidence in the business insurance holder.
Secondly, he says firms which hold data such as client information are also at risk, with the key threats being viruses and Trojan horses.
Recent figures published by the Federation of Small Businesses show small and medium-sized enterprises lose an average of £800 a year from online crime.
