Small business insurance holders have revealed that the UK's employment laws are among the biggest problems facing them, according to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
In its latest workforce survey, the group claimed that 47 per cent of companies with less than five workers admit they have difficult understanding the mass of employment legislation.
David Frost, director general of the BCC, claimed that the findings demonstrate the need to avoid introducing new laws in the near future to reduce the burdens on small business insurance customers.
He commented: "If we are really serious about helping businesses, about creating jobs, why not have a complete moratorium on new employment legislation for the next three years?"
The research also showed that some industries are more prone to problems with employment law, as 43 per cent of those in transport, retail and wholesales report difficulties compared to 27 per cent in the public, education and voluntary sectors.
Last week, the Forum of Private Business said short-time working would help business insurance holders to retain their employees and called for the Working Tax Credits scheme to be amended to permit this.
