Small firms should ensure that their staff are making the most of their holiday time, according to one expert.
Research by Monster reveals that more than half of UK employees are still in touch with the office during their time off.
According to Julian Aqcuari, chief executive officer of the company, this could lead to reduced productivity in the long run.
He said: "Employees should be encouraged to make the most of their holiday time so they can come back to work refreshed, relaxed and raring to go."
The survey found that 22 per cent of people check their emails and phone messages while they are on holiday, 16 per cent are available for "emergencies only", while 15 per cent confess that they do not really stop working at any point.
A recent study by Right Cocare warned that encouraging staff to work long hours can damage the health of staff members.
