Small firms are having to pay more for a reduced postal service, it has been claimed.

In news which might be of interest to business insurance customers, the Forum of Private Business (FPB), states that the fee collections is now at £450, but branches are being closed.

John Foley, an FPB member, who pays around £12,000 a month on postal costs was "shocked" to find out about the price rise.

He said: "This is an additional cost when I can least afford it – Royal Mail has small businesses over a barrel."

Although the firm will be able to cope with the rising prices, it could stop them from expanding, he added.

Meanwhile, firms have been reminded of the importance of having business insurance in place after one company was fined for breaching health and safety regulations.
