Small businesses could be at the forefront of a green economy predicted to be worth £2 trillion by 2030, a new survey suggests.
In news which might be of interest to business insurance customers, research by Shell indicates that firms in the UK attracted £1 billion worth of funding for eco-initiatives last year, reports the Scotsman.
This accounts for 41 per cent of total investment in such schemes in the EU and is twice that of any other European country.
Speaking to the newspaper, James Smith of Shell UK said: "We have to tackle climate change and that creates a big opportunity for small business. This research shows the size of the prize and that British business ingenuity is already making an impact."
The study also predicts the green technology market could grow by 30 per cent a year up to 2020.
Yesterday, a study by the Forum of Private Business found that 63 per cent of small business owners consider health and safety laws a "significant" barrier to growth.
