SMEs should look at renting office space, rather than buying it, one expert believes.
Sarah Ellis, a director of officesplease.com, said: "The commercial market has completely collapsed and it's not being used as investment anymore. Therefore, you would not be advised to buy a property - it's not financially viable in this current market."
Ms Ellis added that SMEs should consider serviced office space, rather than leased office space as the former had a shorter minimum contract period.
Serviced offices generally allow people to sign up for as little a three months, whereas leased space could see people having to commit for up to five years.
By initially choosing a short-term option, SMEs could save a substantial outlay as they looked to get themselves up and running.
According to a poll conducted by the British Council for Offices and Mori found that UK office buildings are among some of the best in the world.
