Those who are self employed or run small and medium-sized businesses should not worry when it comes to self-assessment tax, advises one expert.
A spokesman for business support company Startup Co said that many people think that self-assessment is a major headache but advised that the system is in fact relatively simple and should not be a major concern.
"It is very frequently one of the questions raised. The unknown, with someone who is thinking of becoming self-employed or anything that is not clear to them, is a source of worry," he said.
He added that self-assessment was one of the hurdles that all new business enterprises had to overcome and that very often people find it quite easy.
"It is one of the technical aspects of becoming self-employed. Once you know how to do it, you start to realise just how simple it is," he concluded.
All self-employed people are required to provide HM Revenue and Customs with self assessment tax forms with the next deadline set for September 30th this year. Forms can either be completed online at the HMRC website or on paper and sent via post.
