Scottish business insurance holders are in a good position to capitalise on the green revolution, the country's minister for environment has claimed.

Roseanna Cunningham said that business insurance holders are becoming increasingly aware that major benefits, such as attracting new trade and cutting costs, can be realised by improving their environmental performance.

"Scotland is of course very well-placed to capitalise on the greener business revolution and become a world leader when it comes to providing green technologies of the future," she continued.

Ms Cunningham added that Scottish business insurance holders are operating in a country which has the "most ambitious" climate change legislation in the world and a commitment to a low-carbon and zero-waste future.

The minister was speaking at the 2009 Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland awards ceremony which recognised the eight most environmentally-friendly companies which are operating in the country.

Last month, the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs published guidance to help companies measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.
