A man in north Wales has been charged with six counts of breaking copyright law and three counts of fraud - for supplying satellite decoder cards to local pubs.

Mark Elsdon, of foreign satellite supplier Digisales, was arrested in July and has now been bailed to appear before magistrates in Llandudno on September 25th according to the Morning Advertiser.

The newspaper reports that a six-week investigation by Conwy Trading Standards (CTS) led to the arrest thought to relate to the cards which allow pub owners to show live premiership football illegally.

Peter Davies from CTS told the newspaper that the authorities were trying to make things fairer for everyone by targeting those who chose to flout the law.

"We are here to create a level playing field for local commerce and it is not fair if one pub is paying £700 a year to show Premier League football and the one next door is paying £700 a month," he said.

Earlier this week it was reported by the Publican that Sky television was to double the number of staff it employed to police the illegal transmission of live premiership football.
