The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has urged business insurance customers to conduct risk assessments for manual handling.
Musculo-skeletal disorders are the most common work-related injury in Britain, affecting around a million people a year, says RoSPA.
The organisation advises that business insurance customers should evaluate the risks to workers and take action to eliminate the possibility of injury when manual handling.
"It is known that monitoring health and safety at work is cost effective. Obviously, it is good for the employees themselves; if they are not having accidents, they are not suffering ill health," said Jo Stagg, senior press officer at RoSPA.
She adds that in-company training is available for business insurance customers to help them ensure workers are safe.
RoSPA has been established for over 90 years, campaigning for change and promoting safety at work, home, on the roads and in schools.
