Restaurant insurance customers are struggling in the recession as customers opt for takeaways and fast food outlets.

Takeaway chain Domino's Pizza announced an 8.6 per cent increase in sales, while Newcastle-based bakery Greggs said its revenues are up 5.34 per cent, as credit-crunched consumers take their business away from restaurant insurance customers.

Ken McMeikan, chief executive of Greggs, said: "The underlying factor out there is that people are looking at the amount of money in their pocket and looking for the best value."

Restaurant insurance customers are now having to look at new strategies to draw diners in, such as the two-for-one deals being offered by Italian food chain Pizza Express.

Spanish restaurant La Tasca has made a significant effort to bring in the customers with a variety of discounts, such as 50 per cent off food everyday until January 16th, lunch for two for £10 and Tapas for a Tenner.
