Pubs that offer live entertainment such as bands must make sure that they are complying with new noise regulations, one expert has warned.

Andy Lenthall, general manager at Production Services Association (PSA), explained that many people have simply ignored the new legislation.

He said; "This industry is a long way from complying with the regulations. I don't know if they industry can comply 100 per cent, but at the moment it's 20 per cent and I'm sure it can get to 80 per cent."

Mr Lenthall added that complying with the regulations is not difficult and pub owners need to make sure that they are taking steps to protect their staff's hearing.

Such steps include giving staff custom earplugs to protect them from noisy conditions, he concluded.

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 were introduced to the music and entertainment sectors in April 2008 and have been enforced in other sectors since April 2006.
