Pubs found to be showing live Premiership football illegally could be raided, warn police in Blackburn.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, police have issued a clear warning to licensees stating that pubs found to be flouting the laws will face prosecution as well as having their equipment seized.

Town centre sergeant Rachel Baines told the newspaper that as the new season begins police will be investigating any breaches of the current legislation.

"If you are found in possession of foreign satellite equipment, which is being used to broadcast Premier League matches, it is likely that equipment will be seized and that you may be prosecuted," she said.

She added that over the coming weeks pubs will be issued with a letter that further clarifies that the use or purchase of this equipment could find them in breach of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988.

Last week the Morning Advertiser reported that Ivan Whittaker of The Volunteer in Bolton said that despite the warnings he would continue to show games.
