Pub insurance customers are developing new sales tactics in an attempt to counter the effects of the recession, according to an expert.

Many watering holes are trying to adapt their methods and create innovative ones, in order to attract new customers, says the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).

Neil Williams, head of communications at the organisation, says: "Some pubs are fighting back and are being very innovative and looking hard at their food menus and investing in spaces to attract back smokers."

However, he adds not all pub insurance customers are able to do this and urges the government to help these firms.

Mr Williams says the authorities should "give them a fair deal", in order to ensure business insurance customers stay afloat in the recession.

Figures from the BBPA show 39 pubs per week are currently closing, a record number and an increase on the figure of 36 in the first half of 2008.ADNFCR-873-ID-18997382-ADNFCR
