A pub in Somerset is being investigated by police after persistent complaints of vandalism from residents.

The Bell Inn in Banwell has a late licence allowing it to stay open until 2am, reports the Weston & Somerset Mercury.

However, following several incidents of vandalism including five cars being damaged earlier this month, residents are requesting the pub to close earlier.

Police are now investigating how many complaints have been made against the pub before proceeding further.

Councillor Mike Dolley said: "The victims will have to claim on their insurance which means some will lose their no claims bonus and others will have to pay hundreds of pounds in excess payments.

"We took a liberal attitude when the pub asked for its extension but with rights comes responsibility."

The news comes soon after it was reported that serious violence had fallen in pubs since more CCTV cameras had been installed, although the number of violent incidents remains the same.
