Pub insurance holders are an essential part of British communities, an expert has said.
James Wilmore, deputy news editor at The Publican, explained that pub insurance customers have traditionally acted as a social centre for local communities but have expanded the service they offer over recent years.
"They provide a hub for social interaction and community cohesion - from the young to OAPs to relax, socialise and network with other locals," he commented.
However, Mr Wilmore added that some pub insurance holders now deliver other important services to communities, such as running the local post office or shop and providing broadband access.
In addition, the expert said that the establishments offer a responsible environment in which to drink, which avoids the problem created by cheap deals on alcohol offered by supermarkets.
Recently, the British Beer & Pub Association called on the government to increase the amount of support it offers to the UK pub industry.
