The latest round of post office closures could have a serious impact on small firms, one industry body has warned.
According to Phil Orford, the Forum of Private Business's (FPB's) chief policy officer, shutting down the branches will lead to a reduction of key services to SMEs.
He said: "It is important that, as alternatives to traditional post offices are sought, the key services enjoyed by small firms are not diminished."
Mr Orford did acknowledge that the government's overhaul of the system takes in to account the important social and economic role of branches, but urged political leaders to ensure small firms will be given "proper support" if their local office closes.
Earlier this week, the FPB stated that small firms are better positioned to deal with the credit crunch as they are more flexible than their larger competitors.
According to the body, SMEs should look to cut costs wherever they can and should seek advice to help them do this.
