Politicians do not understand the issues that matter to businesses, a new survey has found.
A study conducted by Populus on behalf of the British Chambers of Commerce found that 85 per cent of respondents do not believe that politicians understand their needs.
It also found that Just 19 per cent believe that the next government will prioritise the needs of companies.
David Frost, director general of the BCCC, said: "These figures paint a depressing picture on the faith that the business community have in politicians.
"With many having very little practical experience working in business it is unsurprising that MPs do not come across as sympathetic to the need of business."
The survey found that 34 per cent of business leaders want the government to address the issue of taxation as a priority, while 29 per cent want them to tackle red tape.
Last week, the BCCC called on the government not to introduce fuel duty, claiming that doing so will hit small firms that rely on transport to survive.
