Pension schemes are no longer a decisive factor for jobseekers who are instead focusing on just getting employment, according to experts.

Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), says with the number of vacancies decreasing, jobhunters are simply looking for work, in news which may interest business insurance customers.

"[Pensions] were [a deciding factor] years ago when you had a choice between jobs and you looked at the variety," adds Mr Davies, saying that at the moment employees are not considering these benefits but instead "looking at the opportunity for job applicants".

Business insurance customers may be interested to learn that the CIPD's Labour Market Outlook found 26 per cent of organisations are planning to make redundancies in the next three months, less than the 28 per cent last winter when the global crisis first emerged.

The average pay rise, excluding bonuses, is expected to be 3.5 per cent, while the average salary increase including bonuses is expected to be four per cent, up from 3.9 per cent in the summer.
