Plans to allow councils to use the Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) as a way to raise extra funds amount to a stealth tax, one industry body has stated.
In news which may be of interest to business insurance customers, David Frost, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) expressed his concern that the burden of levies and charges on firms could be set to grow.
He said: "As is clear in Nottingham, the WPL is purely a means to generate more funds for the council at the expense of local companies and their ability to compete."
The government must recognise the financial burden firms are under and rule out any extension of the "damaging scheme", he added.
Meanwhile, in other news which might be of interest to business insurance customers, the Forum of Private Business claims small companies are being charged more for a reduced post office service.
