New package announced by Google targets SMEs

Google today announced its newest service designed to help small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) optimise their online sales.

The basic package costing £49 per year, Google's Custom Search Business Edition will allow search up to 5,000 web pages.

For a more comprehensive search the site is offering a £245 per year package that searches up to 50,000 pages.

Matthew Glotzbach, director of product management for Google told CNet: "We have transformed the market with our Google appliance."

It is claimed that setting up and tailoring the service to the needs of the individuals business can take only ten minutes.

A survey from comScore last month showed that Google provided more than half of all online searches in May, a one per cent increase on the previous month.

Of the 7.6 billion searches recorded, 50.7 per cent were made by Google, with its closest competitor Yahoo retaining 26.4 per cent.
