A new union aimed at representing all types of licensee across the country has been launched.
The Morning Advertiser reports that Licensees Unite (LU) will replace the old publican's union the National Association of Licensed House Managers.
Speaking to the website, David Hall, the new union's national chairman said: "LU will be a modernising trade body with the ability to represent all licensees and could herald a new dawn in trade relations."
According to the Morning Advertiser surplus funds from the old union will be used to fund a national marketing campaign aimed at attracting new members.
Part of the driving force behind the new union are fears that the number of licensed premises of all kind might fall in the coming year.
At the start of the year representatives from several areas of the brewing industry said they were worried the credit crunch could lead to people reducing their leisure spending in 2008, something that would hit pubs and off licences.
