A 24-year-old mother from Edinburgh who started running her own cafe has won a top business award for disadvantaged young entrepreneurs, it has been reported.
Emma Gibb was unemployed for three years following the birth of her son, Lennon, but she decided to start up her own catering business, Nana's Kitchen, using her grandmother's recipes with her sister Cheryl.
The business now employs six people and has become a cornerstone of the community, for which Ms Gibb was awarded the main Growth Achievement prize at the John Connor Awards run by the Prince's Scottish Youth Business Trust, reports the Edinburgh Evening News.
Ms Gibb said: "I was unemployed for a long time and I just felt like I wanted to provide something for Lennon's future and achieve something," reports the newspaper.
"I am delighted with the way things have gone. The cafe is fantastic."
Ms Gibb's story is an inspiration to anyone thinking of starting their own business, but it is crucial to take out insurance when setting up a private enterprise.
