Pub insurance customers could be interested to learn that a West Yorkshire MP has called on the government to do something about restrictions placed on pubs, it has been reported.
Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West and member of the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group, has submitted a new Commons motion for the government to stop pubs from being sold with restrictive covenants to prevent them from being used as pubs in the future.
Mr Mulholland told the publication the practice of enforcing restrictive coventants is scandalous and needs to be brought to a close.
"As well as being so clearly anti-competitive, this means that faceless pub companies are permanently closing people's locals against their wishes simply to further their own commercial ends," he added.
Meanwhile, the Morning Advertiser reported this week that licensees in Torquay had been resorting to unusual tactics to get the punters in during the downturn.
The Sportsman's Arms had boosted sales through a loyalty card scheme for locals offering them pints for £2 a go and Mojo's Café Bar was selling Christmas trees on the side.
