A man has been arrested on suspicion of setting a Southend pub on fire earlier this month, those looking for business insurance may be interested to hear.
Local newspaper the Echo reports that a 46-year-old male from Rochford was taken in by police this week by police investigating an arson attack on the Golden Lion on Victoria Avenue.
Owners of the pub were left to ring up their commercial property insurance provider after the pub was burned on Saturday morning.
The premises were said to be empty at the time, although firefighters were not aware of this when they arrived.
Spokesman Martyn Hodder commented: "When we arrived on the scene, we had to treat the incident as if people were inside.
"But after a thorough search of the premises, crews confirmed no one was."
It was not revealed how much the business insurance provider will have to pay out for the pub damage or what effect the attack may have on the business's commercial property insurance policy.
Elsewhere this week, a 51-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of pub arson in the Black Country, according to the Express and Star.
