Hotel insurance holders are increasingly providing special offers as a way of attracting customers during the credit crunch, an expert asserts.
Iain Herbert, chief executive of the Scottish Tourism Forum, tells the Scotsman that this is becoming more noticeable across the board.
He suggests that hotel insurance customers are more likely to suffer if they predominantly target the business sector.
Conferences and event hosting is one of the areas where companies are "finding times very tough", he tells the news provider.
Mr Herbert states: "The feedback I am getting is that the leisure market is holding up very well but the business market has fallen."
Colin Paton, chairman of Edinburgh Principal Hotels Association, tells the source that these companies are perishable products and should be sold at a lower price rather than not at all.
He says this has been taken place but has not "fallen off a cliff yet", with hotel insurance owners adding value to their offerings.
Marvin Rust, managing partner for hospitality at Deloitte, recently claimed that companies in this sector would be focused on cutting costs.
