Hotel insurance owners will focus on ways of decreasing the cost of serving each of their customers, an expert predicts.

Marvin Rust, managing partner for hospitality at Deloitte, states that the sector has taken steps to reduce expenditure following previous downturns, suggesting they may do so again.

He claims that those expenses which could be cut out have been removed already, with incidents such as the aftermath of 9/11 bringing hotel insurance owners' attention on this area.

Mr Rust states: "Hoteliers will be focused on the costs to provide the best service for the customer."

While he says 2009 will be difficult year for those with hotel insurance, performance may begin to improve during the fourth quarter.

He comments that up to this point the industry will face bleak trading, with fewer people travelling and a reduction in the number using their facilities.

According to Deloitte, revenue per available room for hotel insurance customers in London grew by 0.8 per cent to 81.1 per cent, the world's fifth highest.ADNFCR-873-ID-19074125-ADNFCR
