There is no business case for failing to exploit the economic downturn for tourism, an expert asserts, which could interest hotel insurance owners.
Don Foster, shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport, says the government has been investing in the promotion of the UK overseas.
In order to make the most of the financial crisis, hotel insurance owners should ensure what is on offer is affordable enough for those hit by the recession, he states.
He claims the business case for reducing value-added tax for accommodation and entrance across Europe is strong.
Mr Foster comments: "If you do, it brings in more money to the exchequer overall and it brings in a significant boost in the business."
Recent figures published by VisitEngland show that 90 per cent of the British population are reducing their spending on holidays, with nearly two thirds intending to take a break in England during the next twelve months.
