An expert claims tourism has been cushioned from the economic downturn due to the weakness of the pound, which could be good news for hotel insurance holders.
Philip Green, chairman of UKinbound, asserts that the hospitality industry is used to fighting against the odds.
He warns this could have negative consequences as the government sees members of the sector, such as hotel insurance holders, as able to cope without assistance.
"It is essential at this time of opportunity for inbound tourism, with the weakness of the pound, that we do not risk that opportunity by deriding our own industry," he states.
Mr Green calls for an increase in investment into the sector, comparing VisitBritain's £6.5 million spend with Europe's multi-million pound tourism campaign investment.
He was speaking at the UKinbound Convention, which took place at Ramada Manchester Piccadilly between February 11th and 13th.
The conference included hotel insurance customers, as well as tour operators, ground handlers and destination marketing personnel.
