The government must introduce regulations obliging hospitality firms to pass on 100 per cent of tips to their staff.

It might interest pub insurance customers to know that Derek Simpson, joint general secretary of Unite, believes a voluntary code of conduct for tipping is not enough.

He said: "This will ensure rogue employers can no longer use money left by their customers, to thank those who served them, to boost their profits."

The union will not accept a situation where staff in bars, hotels and restaurants do not get all of the money left for them by customers, nor should tips be used to top up wages to minimum levels, Mr Simpson added.

Businesses should also be banned from making deductions from gratuities to cover things such as breakages, till shortages and customer walkouts, he added.

It might also interest pub insurance customers to know that the Campaign for Real Ale will be sponsoring the Great British Beer Experience at the BBC Good Food show.

The event will be held at the NEC Arena in Birmingham between 26th and 30th of November.ADNFCR-873-ID-18884699-ADNFCR
