Anyone who plans to operate a business from their home still needs to make sure that it is professionally run, one expert has claimed.
George Derbyshire, chief executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA), explained that while home-based firms are perfectly viable, they will still need to give a good impression to clients and customers.
He said: "Any business owner looking to start or run their business either from home or on the move would need to consider the option fully to make sure it's suitable for them.
"The business still needs to be run professionally - and organisation and focus are key."
He added that such firms might want to consider employing the services of a virtual office, which would allow them to appear to be a larger organisation than they actually are.
According to recent research, home working might make SMEs more attractive to potential employees with 44 per cent of final year university students saying they want a job that offers flexible working when they graduate.
